• Quinta

Proudly from Portugal

Quinta de Lemos is well hidden in the beautiful valley of the Dao, the oldest wine producing region in Portugal. Located near Viseu, the regional capital , full of charm and with a medieval heart, the Quinta is set on the plateau of Beira Alta at an altitude of 340 m.

In this green haven in the centre of Portugal, the Quinta consists of 25 ha of vineyards, 3000 olive trees and beehives to produce the finest honey.

The granite and sandy soils of the Dao valley are well protected by four big mountains (Serra da Estrela, Serra do Caramulo, Serra do Bucaco and Serra da Nave), shielded from the harsh extremes of a continental climate and the humid Atlantic influences.

Deep family values

The name de Lemos has its origin in the Iberian peninsula.

The family crest of four moons gathered in a circle symbolises not only the four compass points explored by this Portuguese family, but similarly the four mountains protecting the Quinta de Lemos within the Dao valley,

and also the four wine varietals used in the Dao wines and at last the four family values of Humanity, Simplicity, Vision and Sharing.

To honor its natal region, the de Lemos family believes to create one of the first high quality Dão wines, made exclusively of the indigenous varieties

Listen to Nature

The grapes have been ripen by the sun and their ruby color invites hands to collect them with tenderness. As with all living things, the grapevines were nurtured by patient and loving hands. Throughout the spring, the forces of mother ‘Nature’ tested the tenacity of these young vines. She kissed them with the warm summer sun and has caressed them with soft autumn breezes. The fruit has matured to perfection and is ready for its new beginning.

By nature quite perfect, because made with the highest developed wine producing techniques, and coming from one of the most prestigious wine demarcated regions in our country, this wine has everything to be one of the best. Its perfection is purely natural, a consequence of the facts. We aim to produce a balanced wine. A balance between tradition and modernity, between technology and nature.

The Art of Winemaking

One of the unique points of the Portuguese Dao wines is their reliance on indigenous varieties.

Touriga Nacional is the leading variety of the Dao and produces spicy wines with forest fruit characteristics. The thick-skinned, dark-colored grapes of the Tinta Roriz variety gives a fruity taste and resinous fragrance. The Jaen is known for its peppery taste. Whereas the Alfrocheiro shows a wine with velvety texture, inky depth of color and flavours of mint, flowers and fresh strawberries.

Classically the Dao wine is a blend of two or more of these varietals. Each year Quinta de Lemos presents two blends and different mono-varietal wines.

In memory of our forefathers we use the names of those who are dear to our family for our most noble wines; Dona Santana, Dona Georgina, Dona Louise…
